The modern governing body of the Ninilchik Traditional Council was formally established on April 24th, 1979 when tribal members adopted the documents of establishment known as the Constitution and Bylaws. In 2004 the Constitution and Bylaws were revised to create NTC’s current Constitution. Elected Council Members (Board of Directors) use the Constitution as guidelines for governing the Ninilchik Traditional Council, tribal affairs, and tribal sovereignty.

The Ninilchik Village Tribe is one of 565 Native Sovereign Nations, tribes which are federally recognized by the United States and eligible for services from the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs.
