The Ninilchik Tribe is dedicated to upholding the well-being and community health of its members, following the Dena’ina tradition of cherishing children and elders. Through a range of essential services, we address various needs, including housing, childcare, burial assistance, snow removal, and support under the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). Our commitment is to ensure that every individual receives the care and assistance necessary for a thriving community life.
Support Programs
General Assistance
Short-term financial aid is available for essential living costs during challenges like unemployment or displacement. Applicants must meet Bureau of Indian Affairs criteria and show no other income sources. Funding levels depend on demonstrated need.
Eligibility is for Native residents within Ninilchik tribal boundaries.
Burial assistance supports families of deceased Native residents within tribal boundaries. Our support covers the essential expenses of a basic funeral service and minimal amenities, and is designed for last-resort scenarios and does not supplement existing funds or reimburse costs.
Eligibility is based on residency, not tribal affiliation.
The NTC Child Care Assistance Program helps Native families access quality, affordable childcare for children from newborns to 12 years old while parents are working, studying, or participating in approved activities.
The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) of 1978 grants tribal governments jurisdiction over child removal and foster care cases involving Native children from their tribe. Tribal ICWA representatives advocate for children’s welfare, serving as intermediaries between clients and state officials, agents, and social work representatives from other tribes.
