Tovarish Manor was established and constructed with the cooperation of the Ninilchik Traditional Council and its Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA) Indian Housing Block Grant, the Ninilchik Senior Center, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the Denali Commission, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The property features 12 units across two condo-style buildings, specifically designed to provide independent living accommodations for seniors.

Independent Living

Apartment details

The apartments consist of two condo-style buildings with a total of 12 units: 8 two-bedroom and 4 one-bedroom. Each unit is designed for senior living in an independent, home-like environment. Features include an attached heated garage, a washer and dryer set, and a patio. Some units are equipped for wheelchair accessibility, while others have sensory-enhancing features for those with visual and hearing impairments.

Heat, hot water, garbage removal, and snow removal are included. Tenants are responsible for electric service, with each unit individually metered.

Eligibility

Prospective tenants must qualify as an elderly family, defined as an individual or a family with an elderly head of household or spouse, who is at least 62 years old. Vacancies at Tovarish Manor Apartments are open to any elderly family, including non-native families. 

Preference for some units is given to applicants who qualify under the NAHASDA Indian Housing Block Grant and HUD Home eligibility requirements.
